March 6: Discussion of allusions (King Arthur) and film study techniques
March 4: both classes submit final draft of narrative on googledocs, titling it ShortStoryMARK. Make corrections to sentence structure booklet, then research common techniques used in film studies (camera angles, etc.). Find 5 and indicate why a film director might choose each one.
March 2: 8S--marked sentence structure booklet. Worked on "Showing, not telling." Peer suggestions to improve stories.
Feb 26th--8R-complete "Showing vs. Telling" handout; 8S-complete "Sentence Structure" by end of Friday.
Feb 17-20: work on second or third draft of stories, with a focus on using a variety of sentence types and sentence starters. As well, a focus on "showing rather than telling." We will try to finish up the sentence structure booklet from last week as well.
Feb 2-13: We are working on a short story. Will be due end of next week with plenty of peer, self, and teacher reflection/editing. We discussed four ways for writers to command attention with the beginning of their stories. Picture available on GoogleDocs.

Jan 28: 8R is viewing the movie "The Sandlot" and discussing the impact of setting on character and plot. 8S will begin this on Thursday. 8S will complete a partnered activity to create character voice (Sightlines 8 textbook)

What or who actually dies then? 2) What other major symbol is repeated in the novel, and what does that object symbolize?
